October and November are generally the most pleasant months for outdoor activities and seeing local attractions in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macau. The Canton Tower near the Pearl River has one of the world's highest observation decks.
The Guangzhou Mid-Autumn Fest: Enjoy the local activities of the second biggest traditional Chinese festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival usually falls in September, but it occasionally is in early October. It is a full moon harvest festival, and moon cakes featuring the fruits and nuts of the season are the favorite festival food.
During a Pearl River cruise, the bright harvest moon might brighten up the river with silvery shimmers as you watch the bright, colorful buildings pass by. Moon cakes are served on the holidays, and you can also take a special festival dinner cruise.
The Canton Fair: The China Import and Export Fair happens semiannually from October 15 to November 4 and April 15 to May 5. It is the largest trade fair in China with the widest range of goods and the highest business turnover. For 2014, organizers expect that about 200,000 merchants will attend from 212 countries and spend 30 billion USD.

Peak Travel Month
October is one of the three high travel months. The October 1st Chinese National Day holiday is a week-long holiday for many people. It is the peak travel time. It is suggested that you place your tour bookings well in advance if you plan to travel during this period. Tourism swells during the Mid-Autumn Festival also.
