The Canton Fair, a.k.a. the China Import and Export Fair, happens every year from April 15 to May 5 and from October 15 to November 4. It is the largest trade fair in China with the widest variety of products and the highest business turnover. For 2014, organizers expect that almost 200,000 merchants will attend from 212 countries and spend 30 billion US dollars.

May Trade Shows: There are other big fairs for other industries of the region as well. Along with the Canton Fair, there is the big International Fashion Brand Fair, the International Textile Machinery Fair, the International Sales Exhibition, the Wood and Paper Show, several fairs related to wood crafting and construction, and other trade shows.
Shop, have fun, and enjoy your time: Guangzhou has a luxury mall called Teemall in Tianhe. It is easy to reach via subway. There is also a good, popular shopping pedestrian street called Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. There are medium-price restaurants and a variety of stores tourists like where they find locally made jewelry, clothing, and souvenirs of Guangzhou. There is also an herb market where you can find the traditional nutritional supplements such as ginseng root and goji berries that have become popular overseas.
High Travel Month
May is a peak month for Guangzhou's tourism business, especially around the National Labor Day holiday around May 1. These public holidays usually are the first three days of May, and the city's attractions and transportation network get crowded. Hotel room prices may be higher than usual, and transportation is also busier so that train and flight tickets are difficult to purchase.
