Weather: During October, expect generally cool, dry, and fine weather. It is fine touring weather. Clothing: In addition to T-shirts and trousers, bring autumn clothing such as a light sweater or a light jacket. Take protective clothing such as a hat and long sleeves to prevent sunburn if you'll spend time outside on sunny days.

Things to Do in Suzhou in October
Huqiu Temple Fair: It usually begins in late September and ends in late October. During the fair, elegant and exquisite handicrafts are on display as well as acrobatics as in the picture above. You can see the local girls making embroidery at the fair and enjoy some tasty local snacks.
Suzhou International Silk Festival: The silk festival and trade show generally begins the end of September and continues on into October. Suzhou's high quality silk fabrics and garments have been admired for centuries, and the region is known for creative, innovative, and artistic silk work. Among the many activities are a clothing exhibition and a fashion show. A plethora of products are for sale.
Suzhou Silk Museum: This is a combination working silkworm farm, silk factory, and museum. They instruct on the whole process of silk fabric creation from raising silkworms, to collecting the silk, to the weaving of the fabric, to making silk products and art. You can watch the workers and also see the exhibits and displays including ancient silk exhibits, late Qing Dynasty exhibits, and modern silk products. The store sells good quality silk products.
The Lingering Garden: This park covers two hectares (5.6 acres), but it is arranged and landscaped to seem to be much bigger. It is meant to feel like an ancient Chinese countryside. You'll hear traditional Chinese music as you walk the winding paths past an artificial hill that looks like a mountain, a miniature bonsai forest, rocks, and pavilions. The park is best enjoyed without noisy crowds, so try to go when the park is quiet if possible.
The Mid-Autumn Festival: It's is the second biggest holiday in China, and it falls in early October 1/3 of the years. There are big crowds at the gardens and parks, but one may experience the festivities and celebrations. Try the local moon cake and chrysanthemum tea treats. Moon cakes are small fruitcakes made from fruits and nuts generally, and the tea is relaxing and promotes health.

Peak Travel Season
October's weather is the best, and people go to the outdoor attractions. The Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day Holiday week (October 1 to 7) means a surge in travel and tourism in October. Traveling costs more because target hotel rates are higher. The local train tickets and air travel tickets are more difficult to obtain, but we could try to find discounts and arrange your personal or group tour to save you the hassle.
