Things to Do in Suzhou in July
Guanqianjie Street: Guanqianjie 观前街 is a kilometer-long pedestrian street in downtown Suzhou known for luxury shopping and entertainment It is easy to reach and is popular with foreign tourists. There are inexpensive street food booths for snacking where you'll find locally made authentic snacks and cuisine. Pingjiang Lu 平江路 is a quaint intersecting lane tiled with cobblestones that has tea houses, small shops, and antique shops. It is quieter and might be a place you walk to for a break. The friendly service is memorable.
See Tiger Hill Park
Climb Tiger Hill: When it isn't crowded, this is a place for a two hour walk or several hours of relaxation. Tiger Hill Park is a garden park like the Humble Administrator's Garden, but it is smaller (14,000 square meters, 3.4 acres) than the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Lingering Garden. However, it is often less crowded. Three acres isn't big, but this park has enough attractions and winding paths amid gardens, pavilions and the 36 meter high artificial hill that it can make for a nice walk.
Foreign tourists appreciate this garden. The highlight is an old brick pagoda that is about a thousand years old. It sits on top of the hill and is 7 stories tall. It leans slightly. It is called the "Leaning Tower of China" for its height and long history.
Suzhou is one of China's top cities for ancient historical buildings, and this pagoda is one of the top architectural highlights in the city. When the more famous gardens are crowded with noisy crowds and children in July, this is the garden to go to.
