Things to Do in Suzhou in January

Enjoy fine dining at the Suzhou restaurants: Suzhou cuisine is known for the fresh seafood dishes and vegetable dishes. When it is cold and snowing, you can stay inside and eat Chinese food, American food, or lots of other styles of food! Suzhou's population is one of the most affluent, and you can enjoy fine dining here. See our recommended list.

Chinese New Year

Enjoy the Chinese New Year: The Spring Festival holidays are the busiest days for travel and tourism. The "golden week" of vacation for the Spring Festival are at the end of January 1/3 of the years. Maybe you'll enjoy a snowy Chinese New Year then. Festivities include reunions, exchanging gifts, fireworks, and feasts. Taste the local food at our recommended restaurants and watch the cultural festivities.

A variety of traditional celebratory activities are held in Zhouzhuang Town, the Humble Administrator's Garden, and the Lingering Garden. This is the best time to visit these scenic spots while experiencing authentic Chinese culture.

Watch the Fireworks: On the Chinese New Year Eve, close to midnight, thousands of fireworks explode all around let off by the population. You can watch these from any high point in the city. A good place is the bridge over the canal at Gangjiang Road. Check the Chinese New Year dates.

Touring Suzhou in January

Shoulder Travel Season

January is a low travel month unless the Spring Festival is in the month or falls close to January. The holiday travel rush begins about two weeks before the Chinese New Year, and it ends about two weeks after the Chinese New Year.

Prices are relatively low in January unless there is a travel rush. If there is, then prices are high for hotel rooms, flight tickets and train tickets. We can use our experience to arrange your personal or group tour and try to find discounts. Why wait in long lines at stations or try to book rooms remotely?
