Kunming Weather in July

Weather: July is part of the rainy and warm monsoon season. It isn't hot. On sunny days, the temperature might reach 15 °C (59 °F) to 28 °C (82 °F), and on rainy days, the temperature is cooler, between 10 °C (50 °F) and 20 °C (68 °F). The average daily high temperature for the month is 24 °C (75 °F), and the average daily low temperature is 17 °C (63 °F).

July and August are the rainiest months. It rains about 2/3 of the days of the month, and there is about 204 mm of total rainfall.

Clothing: Bring long sleeve clothing, T-shirts, a light water resistant jacket and rain gear. You'll need protection both on sunny days and on rainy days. Wear shoes that are easy to dry, and if you go hiking, make sure your shoes have good traction. On sunny days, the UV radiation is high, so covering your skin and wearing a help might help. Things to Do in Kunming in July

Experience the Yi Torch Festival: A local minority called the Yi have a traditional festival on the 24th day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This festival usually takes place in the middle of July. On this traditional day, the Yi people dress splendidly and gather together. During the daytime, people fight bulls and wrestle. In the evening, people dance and sing around a campfire.

Enjoy the local shopping: The main shopping streets called Qingnian Road, Dongfeng Road and Zhengyi Road contain both malls and small shops. You can find foreign brands at the malls and locally produced handicrafts and art at the small shops. The Yi ethnic people mentioned above make a type of handbag that is both artistic and beautiful. These may also be had quite cheaply. Kunming is also known for wax print artwork, clothes, and fabric.

The Western Hills

Visit the Western Hills: Just 15 kilometers west of Kunming City is a big popular park for people of all ages. If the weather is dry, it is an opportunity to be among thousands of recreating Chinese, who appreciate the fresh air of the high altitude park, which is 2,350 meters high (7,700 feet). People worship at the temples (the Longman Grottoes, Huating Temple, and Taihua Temple) and enjoy the panorama of Lake Dianchi. There are extensive walking paths, a tram, buses, and carts for access.

Take a look at Yunnan Provincial Museum: On rainy days, step into this interesting museum where you can see artifacts from the prehistoric times until modern times. You can learn about the history of Yunnan Province and China. There is a section for the Dian Kingdom that once existed in the area, and you can see some Stone Age artifacts. Another section is about ethnic minorities and their clothing, art, and history. The building is a modernized Soviet-style building.
