Clothing: You can dress in a T-shirt and long trousers on nice days. On rainy days, a T-shirt with a light coat and long trousers are recommended. Ultraviolet radiation is strong, so wear a hat and protect your skin on sunny days when you go outdoors. Things to Do in Kunming in August
Enjoy the local shopping opportunities: The main shopping streets called Dongfeng Road, Qingnian Road, and Zhengyi Road have both malls and small shops. You can shop for foreign brands at the malls and locally produced crafts products and artwork at the small shops. The Sani people in the area make a type of handbag that is artistic and beautiful. These are inexpensive. Kunming is also known for wax print artworks, and wax print clothes and fabric.
Go to Western Hills to keep cool: Just 15 kilometers outside of Kunming is a big popular park for people of all ages. It is a place to go on hot and sunny days to keep cool.
You can take a chairlift up to the Western Hills.This park is very popular among the local Chinese who appreciate the fresh air of the high altitude park near Kunming. Some people worship at the Longman Grottoes, Huating Temple, and Taihua Temple, and people walk to enjoy the overlook of Lake Dianchi. The peak is about 2,350 meters high (7,700 feet). There are extensive walking paths, a tram, and buses and carts for transportation.
Keep cool and dry in the Jiuxiang Caves: Another of the main highlights of the area is only two hours from the center of Kunming. It is one of the biggest caves in China. The tour starts with boat cruise in the river. Inside the big cool cave, there are waterfalls, underground rivers and streams, and many beautiful scenes highlighted by bright lights in a rainbow of colors.
You can take an extended walk inside that lasts for three hours. To avoid slipping, wear shoes that have good traction. Near the end of the tour, you can take the cable car down and enjoy the breathtaking green scenery. You could also hike for several hours back to the parking lot.
