Weather: July is the hottest month, and it rains a lot until the middle of the month. The humidity and high temperatures makes the weather uncomfortable. The average daily high temperature is 33 °C (91 °F), and the average nightly low temperature is 25 °C (75 °F). It rains about 13 days of the month, and there is about 160 mm of total precipitation.
There might be a few days of extreme weather to watch for. Temperatures could reach 35 °C (95 °F) or higher. The city and the surrounding areas are occasionally hit by typhoons in July, so keep a watch on the latest weather forecast when travelling. See the current Hangzhou weather and forecast>>
Clothing: You'll need summer clothes, shorts and rain gear. Wear waterproof shoes or sandals for wet weather, and take an umbrella on days when rain is likely.
Things to Do in Hangzhou in July
Hike or Relax at Moganshan: Moganshan is a mountain about a 1½ hour drive from Hangzhou that was a favorite retreat center for both Chinese government leaders and foreigners. There are villas, cabins, and hotels to stay in, and it is especially popular in sweltering Hangzhou summers because it is appreciably cooler. Go for hikes and enjoy tea at the tea farms. The main peak called Ta Shan is 724 meters (2,375 feet) high.
Thousand Islets (Qiandao) Lake: Another outdoor attraction is this huge artificial lake (573 square kilometers). There is forest cover on the islets and along the shore. It is a good place to sightsee, relax at a hotel, and hike. Avoid the Chinese tour buses and boats and noisy tour groups. The place is best enjoyed privately or with a private tour.
Hangzhou Shopping
Moganshan Scenic AreaShopping: Many of our tourists want to stock up on bargains on local silks and electronics. Hangzhou has both luxury malls and economical Chinese markets and shops. Despite its relatively small size, Hangzhou's population is one of the top four mainland cities for buying luxury goods. It is often called the luxury goods capital of the southeast of China. Hangzhou Tower and Hubin International Boutique are luxury malls where you can buy Chinese or foreign brand products.
Hangzhou produces quality silk and satin, and the region produces good quality tea. The products of China's high technology manufacturing are abundant in stores, markets, and malls in the commercial center. Every year in October or November, high technology products from around the world are on display at the Hangzhou West Lake International Expo.

High Tourist Season
July is in the peak travel season. Hangzhou is a popular travel destination, so the hotels, good restaurants, and tourist attractions are often crowded. Students have summer vacation in July, and crowds of young people will be travelling on the trains and visiting the attractions.
