Wulingyuan is a town close to the National Forest Park. Once you arrive in Zhangjiajie, Wulingyuan is just 30-40 minutes removed by bus, taxi, or private transfer.

How to get to Wulingyuan from Zhangjiajie by bus
The bus between Zhangjiajie and Wulingyuan leaves from Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station, which is just by Zhangjiajie Railway Station.
Buses from here depart frequently; approximately every 5 minutes every day of the week, and the journey takes about 40 minutes for just 12 RMB between 8 am and 8 pm. This is the recommended route if you are looking to save money and to travel between those times. Please be advised: The bus mainly caters for Chinese backpackers with no English spoken. It is maybe very noisy.

How to get to Wulingyuan from Zhangjiajie by taxi
Alternatively, you can get a taxi between the two from anywhere in the city. Just show them the Chinese for Wulingyuan Scenic Area: 武陵源景区, or the Chinese name for the specific spot you're trying to get to at the scenic area (for example if you're staying at a hotel nearby).
Taxis will go a little faster than buses, and take just over 30 minutes. Expect to pay between 80 and 150 RMB, depending on your negotiation skills and time of day. At night, when there are no more buses, you'll be looking at closer to 150 RMB.

The best time to go to Zhangjiajie is when there are no public holidays in China, as it gets really busy, and when Zhangjiajie's weather is best. Between September and early November, the weather is comfortable. You can also go between April and June if you don't mind humidity and the occasional rain.
