Longji Terraced Fields is located in Longsheng County, about 102 km Southwest of Guilin. There are There are numerous terraced fields in the area of Longsheng, of which the terraced Fields in Longji are the best and most spectacular. Longji's terraced fields offer some of the most fantastic scenery in Guilin or indeed China. Beautiful when the sun reflects in the water of the paddy fields and glowing with yellow ears when the harvest is ripe, Longji (Dragon's Back) is a feast for the eyes.
As the rice terraces are built into the hillsides, the best and also the only way to view these fields is by hiking. Those who are not good at walking can choose to hire locals to carry them up to the scenery-view platform at the top. There are numerous hiking trails to explore the rice terraces, and the most frequented trails is from Ping'an to Dazhai or the other way.
From Dazhai to Ping'an
Dazhai village is a large, natural village with 2200 residents, most of whom are Yao minorities. The village has three large families, the Pan, the Yu, and the Huang, who presumably moved from Shandong 600 years ago. Around Dazhai village sits another three relatively small villages. Residents all live in wooden buildings with at least two floors.
Set off from the village, you can find stone steps that form a country lane, taking you to a small mountain. Soon you will see layers and layers of rice fields, as this is one of the largest mountain cultivation sites. The road will take you to different view platforms for great panoramic visions of the generations' of works by the Yao people.
After lunch, hike to Ping'an village, a four-hour trip during which you can fully appreciate the rice paddies and other beautiful landscape along the way.
The hiking route has been well explored and most roads are paved with stones. But you should still ask a local resident to guide you along the way.
When hiking among the rice fields, visitors will meet local people (mostly ethnic people) along the way, and get to see their daily life. Ethnic people have lived in their villages with unique wooden houses for hundreds of years. The ethnic minority villages are also very worth exploring.

How to Get to Longji
Take a bus at Guilin Bus Station to Longsheng and then change to another for the Terrence Fields. The journey takes about one and a half hour.
Best Time to Do the Hiking
- June to Novemeber to avoid the chilly winter and rainy season from March to May. The roads may become very muddy and slippery after rains.

- Travelers may need to hire a local guide, as it is not easy to find the right way. Locals are glad to serve as a guide for an charge of around 100 - 200 yuan/ per day.
