Beijing has a lot to offer, and the Western food scene has grown tremendously in the past few years. These restaurants represent some of the best, including Contemporary European, Italian, Mexican, and some cafes serving up the basics like salads and sandwiches.
Contemporary European
The Georg
Nestled in Beijing's hutongs, the Georg is the newest and hottest upscale contemporary European restaurant opened by Danish design brand Georg Jensen. Expect your money to get you good service and solid fare.

Stuff'd
Located on Beijing's Wudaoying Hutong, this is a real local favourite. Stuff'd makes their own sausages, and serves a wide range of other great Western food from pizza's to salads. They also have nice cocktails, and brew their own beer. What more could you want?

Temple Restaurant
Repeatedly voted as one of the best Western restaurants in Beijing, eating out at Temple Restaurant is a great experience. The restaurant has award winning chefs and is set in an exquisite setting - an ancient Tibetan temple that was only recently discovered. The restaurant (and connecting hotel) have won preservation awards, and the temple itself is also recognized by UNESCO.

Capital M
This hotel, positioned so that it has a balcony overlooking Qianmen, the front gate of Tian'anmen Square, is well known for its good food, afternoon tea, and desserts. Best in spring and autumn when the sky is clear and sitting outside is a treat.

Italian
Bottega
Set up by two Italian brothers, this Italian family-style restaurant dishes out some great pizzas, pastas, as well as meat and fish dishes. We highly recommend their lunch menu, which includes two courses for less than 100 yuan. Bottega is also family friendly.

Gung Ho!
One of the best pizza joints in town, Gung Ho is very popular with locals and expats alike. Expect traditional pizza toppings, and some more imaginative China-inspired toppings, all equally tasty! Perfect for families, and, again, its location is very convenient for a night out in Sanlitun.

Luga's
Sanlitun favourite, Luga's serves Mexican and Italian cuisine down one end of Sanlitun's popular bar strip, and Mexican and Vietnamese cuisine down the other end. There are generous happy hours, a long cocktail list, and lots of seating both inside and outside. Food here is good, reliable, and affordable - it's not difficult to understand why this is a popular choice amongst many living in Beijing.

Fiorentina
New Italian restaurant located in Lido serving upscale Italian food with a huge patio out the front. There is also live music between Tuesday and Thursday, and a small dance floor for those who want to boogie after their meal.

Pebbles Courtyard
For a good Mexican option in the lama temple neighborhood, try Pebbles Lounge. This three-story restaurant has been open for many years, and has good burritos, nachos, and tacos at reasonable prices. Their margaritas are also worth a special mention.

Q Mex
If you want to get even better Mexican food than on offer at Luga's, why not check out Q Mex? The prices here are a tad higher, and the quality is too. Q Mex is also located in Sanlitun, slightly south of Sanlitun Village. Popular with everyone, and widely known as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city. Also located perfectly to start a night out in Sanlitun, where many of Beijing's popular bars are.

Taco Bar
Just around the corner from Q Mex listed above, specializing in Tacos, Taco Bar does not disappoint. This is probably where you'll find the freshest guacamole in the entire city, and the tastiest taco fillings. This spot is also known for its strong cocktails and outdoor patio for when the weather is nice! Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends for brunch.

Cafes
Cafe Flatwhite
Another great cafe serving up delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, and burgers, located in the middle of Beijing's 798 Art District. This cafe, run by a Chinese-Kiwi couple, currently has 13 branches throughout the city and also prides itself on its coffee, particularly the flatwhite, its namesake.

Tribe
A green restaurant with a focus on healthy eating for the entire family (there is an entire dedicated healthy children's menu). Lots of gluten-free and vegan dishes are available here, and not at the cost of taste or flavor, making this restaurant really popular with Beijing expat crowds and locals alike.
