Guangzhou is a rising tourism city and Hong Kong is a popular travel destination. The two cities are close to each other and share similar cultures.
Guangzhou does not border with Hong Kong. Traveling between these two cities, the most convenient and non-stop ways can be train transport and air transport. Of course, you can also transfer in Shenzhen (a city borders with Hong Kong) or take a ferry or coach.
Highspeed Trains: A Fast and Convenient Choice
Highspeed train from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station is available from Sept. 23, 2018. There are over 30 pairs of trains in service every day from 06:48 to 21:37 and the journey only takes about 1 hour.

The Guangzhou–Kowloon Through Train: a Convenient Way to Get from Downtown Guangzhou to Hong Kong
The Guangzhou–Kowloon through train runs from Guangzhou East Railway Station to Hung Hom Railway Station in Kowloon, Hong Kong. There are nine pairs of trains running between Guangzhou and Hong Kong every day and the journey takes about 2 hours.
This is a convenient way to travel if you live in downtown Guangzhou because Guangzhou East Railway Station is only a few kilometers from there.
Ticket Price (First-Class/VIP Seat)
- Adult (over 10 years old): 195/232 yuan
- Child (5–9 years old): 103/121 yuan
- Child (under 5 years old without a seat): free
Ticket Refunding
- For a refund at least 3 days before departure (before 11:00): 30% of the ticket price will be charged.
- For a refund at least 2 hours before departure: 50% of the ticket price is charged.
- You cannot receive a refund for your ticket when the train is due to depart in less than 2 hours.
Essentials
The trains depart from Guangzhou East Railway Station at 08:19, 09:30, 10:37, 12:03, 14:04, 15:38, 17:33, 19:33, and 20:40.
You should arrive at the railway station 45 minutes before train's departure, to go through your exit formalities, and the boarding gate closes 15 minutes before the train's departure.
Air Transport: A Costly Choice
Taking a flight is expensive and not a very swift way to travel between Guangzhou and Hong Kong because you may need to spend some time at the airport when you arrive there. This can be a plan B in peak seasons.

The most recommended way to travel is by train as there are over 100 trains operating every day.

Ferry Transport: An Uncrowded Choice
Taking a ferry to Hong Kong is an option if you love this kind of transportation. The boarding ports are Lianhuashan Ferry Terminal and Nansha Passenger Port.
The ferry terminals in Guangzhou are not very easy to reach as there are no metro lines connected to them. A lack of English services is also a challenge. If you'd like this experience, just let us know and we will help you to arrange it.
Coach Transport: Budget Saving
Coaches are available from Guangzhou to Hong Kong but they are not very useful as it is hard to book tickets and find the boarding places unless you can speak Chinese. This is only an alternative plan if the coach departs from your hotel and you are traveling on a budget.
A voyage between Guangzhou and Hong Kong by coach is about 3.5 hours. You will arrive at Shenzhen first, and then pass the port to Hong Kong.
The services of coach transport are offered by several companies. Below is the brief introduction for the most popular two lines.
Shenggangtong Express Line (省港通快线)
Shenggangtong Express Line has 12 buses operated between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. In Guangzhou, you can catch a bus in Huaxia Hotel, Jinhan Station, Dongfang Hotel, and New Tianhe Hotel.
On the way to Hong Kong, you can get off the coach at Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok or Kwai Fong, all of which also can be the boarding points for taking a coach to Guangzhou.
Gangzhonglü Express Line (港中旅快线)
Guangzhonglü Express Line has near 40 coaches operated between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The boarding points in Guangzhou are: Poli Hotel, Dongshan Hotel, Garden Hotel and Haitao Hotel.
In Hong Kong, you can get off in Weijin Hotel, Tuen Mun Center, Hong Kong International Airport, Tsuen Wan Subway Station, Shun Tak Centre, Hong Kong Disneyland Park and Wanchai Subway Station.
