Splendid China

Features

Splendid China Miniature Park theme park and China Folk Culture Village together make up Splendid China Folk Village. They can both be visited with one ticket. In Miniature China, there are models of many places and buildings that China is famous for. So in a way, it is like touring China in a few hours. Perhaps visiting the two theme parks can be used as a quick way to learn about China and the ethnic cultures. Miniature China is a theme park you can visit in Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, and transportation there is relatively fast and easy.

Splendid China is a theme park for models of Chinese attractions, and Window of the World across the road is a theme park for attractions around the world. The park is across Shennan Highway from Windows of the World. The park measures about 30 hectares or about 74 acres. Like Window of the World, the models in Splendid China are in a scale of 1:15 more or less. Arriving at the entrance on Shennan Highway, to your right is the Chinese Folk Culture Village and to your left is China Miniature Park (which in fact is not so miniature). The park has been in existence for over 20 years, and it displays scenery and historical architecture that reflect the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

History

In 2003, Splendid China merged with the Chinese Folk Culture Village to form Splendid China Folk Village (锦绣中华民俗村 Jǐnxiù Zhōnghuá Mínsú Cūn). The theme parks are quite different though they are both about China. One instructs on China's ethnic groups, and the other instructs on famous sites and architectural heritage. It seems that men and boys may prefer looking at the detailed scaled models and learning about Chinese architecture and geography while women seem to prefer seeing the costumes of ethnic groups in China and visiting the various houses and the portrayal of ethnic village life.

Attractions

To see the models in Splendid China Miniature Park, when you enter the area of the theme park, go left. You'll see that the the area is big, and in order to experience it all there is a miniature train available. The ride will take you past major attractions while saving your legs for the rest of the day. Many visitors are impressed. The park is laid out as a map of China featuring more than 80 of the important and famous sights in a 1:15 ratio. It is beautifully landscaped with trees and flowers around the different monuments. One can enjoy the Great Wall of China, the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Three Gorges Dam and the Terracotta Army to mention a few. If you enjoy walking, it is a beautiful walk; but if you want to also visit the Folk Culture Village, the train ride quickly gives you a great overview of Splendid China and allows you to experience many attractions while saving your time and energy to see the Folk Culture Village.

An evening generally ends with entertainment shows involving a lot of performers. Some shows depict events in Chinese history such as the attack of Genghis Khan. Other performances are about Chinese culture.

Two other theme parks nearby that you can go to are Window of the World across the street and Happy Valley that is about 1 kilometer from the front gate. Happy Valley is a kid's favorite, and it is close enough to walk to.
