Weather: November is a relatively cold month with many days of fresh air, sun, and blue skies. It is cool during the day and fairly cold at night.
There is a big temperature difference between day and night because of the high elevation of 2,400 meters or 7,900 feet. But it also feels warmer than the temperature during the day, and there are only 8 days of rain per month for a total of 19 mm.
The average nightly low temperature is 9 °C (48 °F), and the average daily high temperature is 19 °C (66 °F). Most days are comfortable.
Clothing: Have a coat for the chill nights, but in the day you might be comfortable in a T-shirt. You'll need rain gear if rain is likely, and take a coat and rain gear up to the mountains.
Altitude Sickness: Most tourists will experience shortness of breath and quickly get tired if they stay overnight. Many people use oxygen on the mountain. The cost of an oxygen canister in the city is about 1/3 less than on the mountain. Take precautions if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure.
Things to Do in Lijiang in November
See the Lijiang Ancient City
Lijiang: The local people called the Naxi around Lijiang developed an interesting culture with their own unique hieroglyphic writing system that is the only such system still in use in the world. They also have a distinctive dairy and yak beef rich cuisine to taste. They were noted by UNESCO for their culture and architecture that you can see.
Visit the Dongba Museum: A place to go to learn about these people is a little museum in Jade Spring Park right next to the Black Dragon Pool. The pool is a Lijiang landmark, and there is a small hill there you can climb to look around at the scenery. The museum itself is free to visit, and there is a Naxi souvenir jewelry store.
Shuhe and Baisha: These two UNESCO recognized cobblestoned Naxi districts are more authentic than Lijiang proper. There are many little Naxi restaurants where you can get an authentic meal. You can explore the cobblestone streets and alleys.
Visit the Mufu Mansion: You can see the scenery from the Mufu Mansion on top of Shizishan Hill in Dayan. An earthquake destroyed the ancient mansion of the Mufu clan that was here. This building was built in its place.
